In 2023 there is an opportunity for a special interest group at SAWG to explore ornamental turning. Classic ornamental turning was developed using very rare and sophisticated equipment but that is not what is intended here. 

The idea is to explore use of tools that many members will already have; together with some specialist equipment that can be shared. Opportunity will occur to refine existing equipment to ‘ornamental’ uses.

For this purpose, ornamental turning is defined as “the creativity of woodturning merged with the precision of engineering” with everyone choosing their own interests.

It is proposed that the special interest group will meet informally at the SAWG clubrooms on the second Tuesday of each month at 7PM for which a slot exists in the 2023 calendar; starting with Tues 14 Feb 2023 ie Valentines’ Day, for some!
